Joiner Accessories

When it comes to creating solid wood joints, you'll need specific joiner accessories. Having the right jointer is the first piece of the puzzle. Second, you need the biscuit, or the little wooden piece that will give you a solid hold in all of your woodworking projects. Unlike a screw or a nail, joining works by cutting slots into the piece, placing a wooden biscuit and applying glue. This form of fastening is perfect for situations when using a nail isn't feasible. Sears has a number of biscuit sizes as well as wheeled bases for your table jointers and planers.

Create solid joints with joining accessories

Woodworking requires a number of unique tools to create certain joints. Whether you're working on a cabinet, a bookshelf or even a towel rack, you won't always be able to use nails. This is where having a joiner is a real life-saver. Joining involves wooden biscuits inserted into specifically cut slots. Once glue is applied, you'll have a solid hold that can hold up to the test of time. Sears has the biscuit joining accessories you need to help you finish off any carpentry project.

The key piece in joining is the wooden biscuits. Usually made of beech or particle wood, these small pieces are extremely dry and expand once glue is applied to them. Sears has common sizes like R3 and 0. The R3 size is much smaller than the standard 0. This makes it great for wood trim and thinner pieces of wood. Most projects will require the 0 size biscuit, which fits in the standard 4-mm cut. A huge advantage of biscuit joinery is its ease of application. Once set in place, you have a decent amount of wiggle room while the biscuit expands so your cuts don't have to be extremely accurate. Make sure you have a few good vises to keep the wood locked down while the glue dries.

For jointer tables, pick up a mobile base for your jointer that allows you to make more use of your space. Odds are most of your workshop is going to covered in either large machinery or your main workbench, so making this piece of equipment mobile will give you more options to your shop configuration. The wheels on the base can be lifted and the stand then rests on four steel legs. Making your jointer mobile allows you move it wherever you need it, and push it out of the way when not in use. Shop space is precious and being able to roll large tools is a huge asset.

To complete the joining process you're going to need the right glue. Wood biscuits need a water-based adhesive. The biscuits are extremely dry, so when water-based glue is applied they expand. This causes them to fill the slot, creating a strong hold. Make sure that you only remove the number of biscuits you need from their packaging because any moisture in the air can cause them to expand before you use them.

With these joining accessories, you'll be able to get a strong hold for all of your woodworking efforts. Stop by Sears and get everything you need to finish that project off right.
