Whynter  ARC-12S Eco-friendly 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

<span>We purchased this unit to replace an aging 12000 btu window unit. Overall this unit does what is advetised and cools well. It was easy to assemble and all pieces fit correctly. The one complaint we have is that the window adaptor does not seal well. We have an older home with wide wood casement windows and the window adaptor fit very loosely.  The design of the adaptor 's sliding adjustment feature causes the adaptor to be two different heights.from top to bottom. When the window was closed there was a 1/2 inch gap on the top and bottom of the adaptor. This we cured with the installation of tape backed foam style door insulation that was installed on the panel of the lesser height. A giant thing ? No. However it did require a trip to the hardware store to purchase the insulation.  With the record breaking heat wave we are having in our area I think the unit does everything it should do. Does it cool as well as the window unit it repaced ? Almost.  We knew up front that portible units were not as efficiant as window units so this really does'nt concern us.  One thing we discovered was to keep the exhaust hose as short as possible. The hose becomes very warm during cooling and by keeping short there is much less heat from the hose radiated into the room.</span>

<span>We were concerned after reading some reviews of this unit and other similar portible units about the noise level.  We have found that this unit is much quieter than the window unit it replaced.  It make about as much noise as a box type window fan. No rattles, whirs or bangs. I am going to give this unit a  five star rating but wish i could give it a 4 1/2. the half star loss would be for the window adaptor.. It's better than a four but not quite a five star..</span>

<span>Would we buy this unit again ? certainly.  Would we buy other Whynter products ? Yes we would. Would we buy from Kmart again? We will do just that.</span>

This unit cools fabulously. Used to sweat when in our den, even just sitting and reading. My handy husband, installed it in less than 10 mins and got me cool and calm. When you crank it up to cool the fan does become loud but when it's in low mode, it's definitely not bothersome one bit. The silver color does add a touch of class. I'm enjoying this aircon tremendously.

This air conditioner cools a room great! Only downfall is it very noisy. Vibrates and makes a clicking sound to the point you have to get up and gently nudge it to stop. Very annoying. Keeping us awake and waking us all night.

Good skinny girth that makes it ideal for a small room. Remarkably easy to hook up and is able to handle a tremendous amount of heat. It has not generated any excess condensation after a month of use. I would definitely repeat this purchase.

I've used window units all my life and decided to try a portable based on a friends recommendation. I was duly impressed by the speed of cooling.  I don't have a huge bedroom but on a very very hot summer day this performed unfailingly.  I had to turn down the temperature twice. It's almost like a mindless beast that's on a mission to freeze.  That being said, I'm glad it's on my side!  Thumbs up on the Whynter portable air conditioner.

My first caviat is that I am the top unit of an apartment building and have cathedral ceilings in my living room where this unit is working.  It arrived on the hottest day of our heat wave.  I kept it aimed right at me and was nice and cool.  I noticed that a thermometer in the room only dropped one degree per hour and leveled out at 84.  I was able to use a fan to push the air into my bedroom which made a big difference there.  The hose connections are its weakest feature and won't stand up to much torque.   All in all this is a good unit for the price point.

Whynter Eco-friendly 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is a terrific portable air conditioner if you are looking to cool off with style.  The price is very fitting, not at all expensive.  Very worth it.
