How to Locate an Appliance Model Number
Any do-it-yourself repair project starts by first finding the model number for a product or appliance. Unfortunately, the model number can be difficult to find, as it varies from product to product. Find out where to look first to see where a model number for a given product might be located.
The model number will be located somewhere where it can be seen, so you will not need to remove any pieces to find it.
The model number for a garbage disposal is usually located on the side or the bottom of the unit.
Look on the side of the outside of the tank near the bottom of the unit to locate the model number.
Washers and Dryers
For laundry units including washing machines and dryers, where the model number is located varies from model to model.
The model number for front-loading washers and dryers can usually be found on the bottom of one side, on the inside of the door, or on the door jamb.
For top-loading washing machines, look on the top above the buttons, on the back of the unit, underneath the lid, or on the side wall.
Stacked Top-Load Machines
For top-loading washer / dryer stacked combo units, look on the side, underneath the lid of the washing machine, inside the dryer door, on the top of the unit, or inside the door jamb of the dryer.
Stacked Front-Load Machines
For front-loading washer / dryer stacked combo units, look in all the same spaces as above, but note that the model number may also be located on the inside of the washer door or on the door jamb.
Microwave model numbers can be located on the inside wall, on the door jamb, on the door itself, on the control panel near the buttons, or on the back of the unit.
Oven model numbers are usually located on the door jamb.
Look on the door jamb, the side or the top of the door itself, or inside the tub of the unit.
For a top-mount refrigerator, look on the ceiling of the inside of the refrigerator, on the side wall of the inside of the refrigerator, on the inside of the door, behind the crisper, or behind the kickplate. This is the same for a side-by-side refrigerator unit.
