How to Microwave Bacon

Bacon is a savory side for any breakfast, from eggs over easy and crispy hash browns to mouth-watering fluffy cinnamon rolls with creamy icing. If splattering grease and time-intensive cleanup has you opting out of this morning delight, try cooking your bacon in the microwave.

What you'll need:

  • Packaged bacon. Use as much or as little as you desire.
  • Paper towels. You'll need these to soak up grease and prevent splattering.
  • Microwave-safe dish. This is what you'll use to cook your bacon.

Step 1: Layer paper towels over a microwave-safe dish.

Place two or three paper towels on top of a microwave-safe plate or dish to soak up excess grease as the bacon cooks. If you use glass Pyrex®, the sides will prevent grease from splattering even further.

Step 2: Place bacon strips on top of paper towels

Decide how much bacon you want to cook and arrange the pieces side-by-side. Make sure the strips of bacon don't overlap or else the bacon won't cook evenly. Then, layer a few more paper towels on top of the bacon to ensure that grease doesn't splatter on the walls while the bacon is cooking.

Step 3: Cook bacon to your liking.

As a general rule, you should cook bacon for about a minute per piece. So, if you're cooking six strips of bacon, it will take about six minutes for them to fully cook. Of course, if you prefer crispier bacon, you can increase your cook time accordingly.
