How to Clean a Game Disc

No matter how careful you are with the discs for your console games, they're going to get dirty eventually. Whether it's dirt, dust or even a few fingerprints, your games will need a light cleaning from time to time. Your gaming console reads discs best whent they're clean, so follow these simple steps to get your discs ready to get you back in the game.

What you'll need:

  • Cotton balls
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Tap water

Step 1: Clean disc with a damp cloth.

Use some regular tap water to dampen your microfiber cloth. Then, wipe the disc with straight strokes going from the center of the disc out toward the edges. Do not wipe in circles, as this can create scratches and affect how the disc is read.

Step 2: Dry the disc.

Take a cotton ball, and using the same center-to-edge strokes, dry the disc. Press lightly to avoid adding any lint or scratches to the disc surface.

Step 3: Let the disc air dry.

After drying your game disc with a cotton ball, let the disc air dry to ensure all moisture is gone from your disc's surface. This should only take a couple of minutes.

Step 4: Test disc.

Now that you've cleaned your disc, put it into your console and try it out. If it still doesn't work, check the surface for scratches and try to clean it again.
