A Guide to Fitness Gadgets to Get You Moving

What motivates you to exercise?  Are you driven by the desire to fit into your favorite pair of designer jeans?  Perhaps you exercise because it’s the only way you are able to indulge your sweet tooth.  What if you simply lack motivation all together?  Well, you’re not alone.  What if we told you that the right fitness gadgets could motivate you to elevate your heart rate for 30 minutes each day?  Interested?  Well, read on because we have the very best fitness gadgets guaranteed to get you going and keep you moving.

iPod:  First and foremost, you need an iPod.  Without your favorite tunes to keep you motivated, working out can be a drag.  Why an iPod and not just any MP3 player?  Because you’re going to want this next fantastic gadget!

Nike + Sensor and Receiver Kit: For anyone who enjoys walking or running for exercise, this is a must-have fitness gadget.  Use this to keep track of your time, distance, pace and calories burned.  Sync your iPod to see a comprehensive log of each of your workouts.  It’s a great motivational tool.

Polar FT40 Heart Rate Monitor:  By far, my favorite heart rate monitor is this model by Polar.  The readings are accurate and the quality is outstanding.  To get the most out of any workout it’s essential to keep your heart rate within a target zone – determined by your gender, age and weight.  This monitor has an alarm function that beeps when you’re outside your target zone, so you can focus on your exercises without constantly checking your monitor.

Omron GoSmart Pocket Pedometer:  For those of you who prefer to run or walk without music, a pocket pedometer is a great alternative to the Nike +.  This lightweight and inexpensive gadget keeps track of your steps, calories and distance.  The health data software and computer cord allow you to upload stats from each of your workouts – a great way to stay motivated.

Garmin Forerunner 405 Fitness Watch:  This GPS-enabled sport watch tracks your training then wirelessly sends the data to your computer.  Loaded with serious training features, Forerunner 405 continuously monitors your time, distance, pace, calories and heart rate (when paired with a heart rate monitor).  Each run is stored in memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you’ve improved.
