Sears Heroes at Home & Rebuilding Together Team Up for Red Hook, Brooklyn NY.
Sears Heroes at Home and Rebuilding Together teamed up for the sixth year to improve the lives of America’s military families. Launching its annual spring renovation campaign in a community devastated by Hurricane Sandy, Heroes at Home is rebuilding the home of U.S. veteran Michael Chirieleison, with strong support from his local Red Hook community.
Vietnam Army veteran Michael “Mickey” Chirieleisonis the current commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5195 in Red Hook. Mickey, born and raised in Brooklyn, had his home handed down to him in 2000 when his boss, the former VFW commander, passed away. His home was devastated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 when more than 11 feet of water sped into his home; Mickey’s now-gutted home is in tremendous need of renovations and repairs.
After serving three years in the Vietnam War, Mickey received a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal for his dedicated service. Now the commander of the local Red Hook VFW, Mickey has been a long-standing member of the local community and held his post at VFW for more than 30 years.
To date, Sears has raised nearly $17 million for Heroes at Home – and Mickey’s renovation is one of the hundreds of projects that can be made possible through generous consumer donations both in-store and online at Sears. Now through July 31, Sears is encouraging consumers to continue their efforts by donating funds to Heroes at Home at their local Sears store or via a link online at: sears.com/heroesathome.
