Bring the glamour of Hollywood to your Oscars party by planning a few simple, yet glitzy party ideas.

Opt for invites in gold that clearly define the theme of your party. Include the basics: date, time, location and RSVP information, and state if you’re serving a sit-down meal, buffet or snacks. If you want your guests to dress Hollywood style, add a line: “Formal attire optional but encouraged.”

Whether you choose to serve a sit-down meal or buffet, elevate your party food to Oscar-spectacular. Oscar party ideas for delicious food include designing the menu to represent each Best Picture nominees. The Food Network suggests a cupcake display depicting the famous Hollywood sign makes for an eye-catching and tasty treat.

Décor extends to the design of the dining or buffet table. Use a long red table runner — to represent the red carpet — set over a white, black or gold tablecloth. White napkins can be folded to resemble envelopes — be sure to “seal” each with a gold seal sticker. Most party supply stores have faux Oscar statuettes; include several as table décor.

If your buffet table is in a different room away from the main television, set a second TV near the food area. Guests will appreciate not missing any Oscar action throughout the evening.

Décor and more

Academy Awards parties should include glamorous décor:

  • Colors — gold and silver
  • Red carpet — order faux red carpet runners online for less than $10 or make your own using a red vinyl table covering
  • Paparazzi photos — take pictures of your guests on the red carpet upon arrival
  • Twinkling lights — entwine strands of mini lights in gold, silver or black tulle; drape over stair banisters or along a fireplace mantle

Shimmering candlelight adds ambience — consider a three-piece handmade glass hurricane candleholder set from as the centerpiece for your swag (party favor) table. Swag bag filler ideas include:

  • Boxes of movie theater candy
  • Mini-clapboard notepads or key chains
  • Items inspired by the year’s Best Picture nominees

Plan to play Oscar BINGO (check online for easy downloads) or prepare your own Oscar trivia to engage your guests during commercials.

  1. Great party ideas! I have been attending a friend's party for the last few years-we do an Oscar pool, as well. It is always fun to see how many winners you picked correctly!
