Spring Clean Your Spirit
By Joyce Cherrier
The words “renewal” and “rebirth” capture the spirit of the spring season. It’s when Mother Nature puts on her best designer dress, and you get the urge to purge the clutter you’ve accumulated during winter. That includes the junk getting in the way of your happy, healthy life.
“Anything that separates you from your inner voice or guide is spiritual clutter,” says NYC-based life coach, Lois Barth, creator of Luscious Living with Lois, a life-coaching and consulting service. Cleaning house can also set you up for measurable success on the scale.
“The goal is to bridge the gap between knowing something and actually doing it. Psychological healing helps you discover and address what’s eating you. Simply focusing on what you’re eating isn’t enough,” Barth explains.
“Gardening is a cleansing practice for me in the spring. There’s something about the planting of flowers, vegetables, and the smell of dirt that renews me. Plus, it can be somewhat physical. I like how it doesn’t feel like typical exercise.” – Dana McDowell, 49
“After a long Colorado winter, I crave warmth, sunshine and nature. Getting outside in the fresh air and sunshine does wonders for my spirit and the third trimester of my pregnancy. I can look forward to lots of walks, hikes and a few easy runs.” – Kerri Olkjer, 36
“Spring is like a natural mood enhancer. My goal is to stay positive and not allow stress to paralyze me into not working out. I plan to take meditative walks on the beach and drink more water.” – Henie Reisinger, 57
