  1. I believe the "defrost fan" you refer to is actually the evaporator fan located in the freezer section. The fan should run when the compressor is running and cooling the unit. When the unit goes into defrost the fan should stop working while the unit is in the defrost cycle. If the fan doesn't work at all then the fan motor is the problem or the main control is the problme. The fan runs on DC voltage. I would suggest a starting point is use a meter to check the circuit through the fan motor while the unit is unplugged from the wall electrical outlet. An open winding would indicate a bad fan motor. If the fan doesn't work then most likely the fan motor is the problem. Unless you have a meter and experience with do-it-yourself this is a repair best left to a technician.
