Question

Hi, I recently purchased a used dishwasher (KitchenAid) model number KUDD01DSSS 0 It has 2 drawers. When I purchased it, the owner, who was a real gentleman, said the top drawer dishwasher works great, the bottom drawer doesn’t work. He said a Sears technician did a thorough check on the dishwasher and said that the electronic control for the lower drawer need to be replaced. I did a google search for the part number for that electronic control part. I think that it is part PartSelect Number PS1486691 and the Manufacturer Part Number 8194444. My question is this, Do you think it is the Electronic Control that is the problem? Secondly, Do you think it would be worth my while to actually fix this dishwasher or did I make a mistake purchasing this machine? If you were to see the dishwasher, you would think it was brand new. If it is worthwhile to fix, where could I get this part and is it a difficult fix for a technician? Thanks very much!!! I look forward to your response!!!

  1. That is a good dishwasher. It may be worth keeping if you can repair it for a reasonable cost. Based on your description, replacing that electronic control board that is part 8194444 will probably fix the problem with that lower drawer. That is a fairly expensive part. If you want to repair the dishwasher and keep it, then I recommend that you consider purchasing a Sears Service Smart Protection Agreement. That agreement will cover the repair for parts and labor (up to a $500 limit per repair). It would continue to cover the dishwasher for an entire year (with the same limit of $500 per repair call). The Sears technician could check the dishwasher out and would repair anything else that is needed. You would have the peace of mind that the dishwasher is covered for repairs during that first year of use. That agreement costs about $229 in most service areas (not much more than the part itself). You can Sears at 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME)to discuss the details and of that agreement and purchase it if you choose. You can then set up the service call to have the dishwasher repaired. Thanks very much, Lyle! Although it says I am from Boston, MA, I am really from Nova Scotia, Canada. When I signed up on this fourm, it wouldn't allow me to put in my postal code. I just put in any zip code, which happened to be Boston. I know that I could make the call to find out, but this is a valuable thread, I'm thinking other readers may want to know the answer to this queston. "Can I purchase the Sears Service Smart Protection Agreement from Sears of Canada? If I can, do you know how much it would cost and if it would work the same way your described the US plan works. Thanks again for all your help!!

      Kindest regards,

      .....Brian

Hello Brian. I was not able to contact Sears Canada to determine whether they offer that Sears Service Smart Protection Agreement in that area. You can call Sears in Canada through the 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME) number. They should be able to tell you whether that agreement is offered in Canada. I apologize that I was not able to determine that for you myself.

Hi BrianMac! I can answer this one for you! You can buy a Service Smart Agreement in Canada. You may want to double check with the Customer Service folks in Canada, but it should run you about the same as the US plan.
