  1. Is the knocking noise coming from behind or the front? If it's from the front, it could be that water is not feeding into the ice maker, but the ice maker is turned on. This has happened on various models on the salesfloor when people have turned the ice maker on. It will make a mechanical knocking sound for a few seconds, stop, then a few minutes later it will begin again. If that's not the case, then it sounds like what Scott described. Good luck!

  2. If there is ice building up in the freezer and especially the back wall, this will usually indicate a problem with the defrost system. Now, also check the door, it may not be closed good or making a good seal. This will allow warm outside air inside the cabinet and cause ice to build up. The noise will probably be from the fan blade hitting some of the excessive frosting taking place. To get rid of the ice, turn the unit off for 24 hours to allow it time to defrost.
