Why is my Kenmore refrigerator “door open” alarm going off when the door is closed? This is happening at random times — day or night.

  1. Thank you for replying with the model number. On this particular model the door alarm should not start unless the door is left open for over a minute. The tone should occur every 30 seconds. It should stop when the freezer/refrigerator door is shut. Chek if the door switches cause the alarm to stop when pressed in. The problem is likely a loose connection on a door switch. Try manually activating the door switches and see if one has a problem.

  2. I know this alarm can be disturbing. With some models when this problem occurs, the door switch may need to be replaced and with some models it may lead to a control board replacement. A good check with most models will be to press the door switch or switches in manually to see if the alarm stops. If it does stop, make sure the door is making good contact with the switch and if so, it will indicate the switch is weak internally and will need to be replaced. If you would like to have a technician check this, you can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out. If you would like more assistance, please include the complete model and serial number.
