A better tomorrow starts with better sleep today. Feeling more naturally energized makes it easier to make the most out of your life. In addition to finding the right mattress, here are some tips to help you get better sleep.

Create the right sleep environment

Create a dark, quiet sleep environment

Your environment plays a role in your comfort. Hit the hay in a relaxing, comfortable, sleep-friendly space.

You could consider:

  • Use a fan or air conditioner. The ideal sleeping temp is 64° – 69°F.
  • Open a window just a crack for better air circulation.
  • Get thick blinds and dark curtains to keep light out.
  • Add a plush rug to your room to help absorb noise. This is especially helpful if you have wood floors.
  • Try adding plants and beautiful décor to create a soothing atmosphere.
Avoid distractions before sleep

Ditch these common distractions

Sleep experts say common household items can distract you from getting good sleep.

Think about:

  • Laptops, cellphone and tablet use before bed actually decreases the amount of melatonin in your body. Melatonin is a naturally produced chemical your body produces to help you get sleepy.
  • Blinking lights, ticking sounds and beeping noises can make it hard to fall asleep.
  • Avoid stiff, scratchy sheets or bedding that doesn’t breathe. Snuggle up with materials that feel good to the touch and allow your body to breathe.
Set a healthy before-bed routine

Learn ways to wind down at the end of the day

It’s suggested that you get a “before bed” routine to help your body and mind know it’s time for bed.

You could try:

  • Gradually reduce light and exposure to light hours before trying to sleep.
  • Turn off electronics at least an hour before bed.
  • Read a book to relax.
  • Switch to warm-colored lights in the evening.
  • Try to sleep in total darkness.

Discover the value of a regular sleep schedule

Establishing a consistent sleep pattern makes it easier to shut down at the end of the night. Science suggests your body will begin to recognize the cycle you establish, making getting to sleep quick and easy.
